June 2019-Michelle Laird-38 Years Old

From Coach Eric: “Michelle is one of the most consistent morning members.  She is there ready to work almost every day at 5:30 am.  She puts in the work and takes time to ask questions to improve.  On top of that I can always count on her to have a positive attitude and use it to encourage her classmates.”

Congratulations, Michelle!

What is your sports/fitness background?
In HS, I ran track (sprints) and was in the marching band, which is more physically taxing than some may think.  I also played the baritone so was trying to work on that upper body strength early.  At Towson University, I played ultimate frisbee and taught aerobics (cardio kickboxing and step).  I have always loved group fitness, kept me accountable and pushed me more.  I spent some time running half marathons and marathons and even then, I always trained in a group. I think its the secret to those of us in the 5:30AM crowd, you know your other gym friends will note when you are there and give you sh$t when you don’t show up. 😉

What are your fitness goals?
There are so many!  Feel good in my clothes!  Catch up with Coach Nichole! 🙂 Deadlift 300 and string together some kipping pullups.

What do you see as your greatest improvement?
All things upper body.  It was never really a focus before I started CrossFit and when I first got here, it was a major weakness.  But hey, I got my first pull up in the Open last year and was able to do C2B this year so I am definitely improving.

What is your favorite and least favorite workout?
As everyone knows, I love deadlifts!  There is one workout where you run and do 155# deadlifts, that’s a great one!  Least favorite – something with pull ups and push ups, I am not great at either and just feel really slow.

How has your experience at EC Health and Fitness affected your life?
Gave me a new gym home.  My last gym closed and finding ECHF gave me a new gym family.  ECHF has definitely pushed me more than any other workout experience I’ve had.  Bronson says get comfortable with being uncomfortable and its totally true.  It’s the only way you change so I always try to push a little more each day.

What’s your favorite ECHF memory so far?
The Open – the cheering, the support, the PRs.

In 1 word, summarize your ECHF experience.
Supportive (I wanted to use addictive but Stacey used it 2 months ago :))
