November 2018-Lisa Young-50 Years Old


From Coach Mary: Lisa is very open minded about her fitness.  She attends the Fitness4Everyone classes and the Move Fusion classes.  She is very aware that both classes complement her overall fitness.  She is diligent about setting her workout schedule ahead of time and does her best to keep her workout schedule.  Lisa is super fun to have in class! I’m very proud that she has turned over a new leaf and exercised while she was away on vacation (a first for her).

What is your sports/fitness background?

When I was young, I swam and played tennis, but as a teenager I became much less active. I had to learn, as an adult, how to get myself active again, but I never really enjoyed much of anything I tried…until I found ECHF.  Feeling really down, I wandered in the gym, after watching one of Bronson’s videos – “No matter your age or fitness level, we can help you in your journey to fitness.” He was right. I have been going to Bootcamp for a little over a year now, and I have regularly participated in Mary’s Move Fusion since its start one year ago.

What are your fitness goals?  

My ultimate goal is to have no regrets. And to do that, I want to live a healthy lifestyle by being mindful about what I eat and by getting enough regular exercise to feel strong, flexible and confident.  I want to decrease my chances of injury as I get older, and I want to maintain a reasonable level of energy throughout the day. Another goal I have is to increase my endurance so I can workout at a more intense level without running out of steam.

What do you see as your greatest improvement?

My greatest improvement is my desire to get to the gym.  They say it takes a certain amount of time to form a habit. Now that it has been a year, going to the gym is a regular part of my life, and I never thought I’d ever be one to say that.  I’m so proud of that change in me!

What is your favorite and least favorite workout?

My favorite workout starts with a classic Mary warm-up that infuses her stretching movements so when we get down to business during the workout, I feel like my muscles and joints are ready for movement. I also like the silly warm-ups we do that bring us together as a group in the beginning of the session. I enjoy partner work-outs a lot. I like the rower, lunges, squats, any core-work, and I like different plank exercises.  I like all of Mary’s Move Fusion work-outs. My least favorite workout involves so many burpees that I think I’ll die. I’m not a huge fan of hanging from the bar for anything, because my shoulder can’t take it very well. But the workouts I tend to hate the most are actually the workouts I drive away from the gym feeling the best about – because I made it through.

How has your experience at EC Health and Fitness affected your life?

This is something I can’t even express enough.  ECHF has changed me for what I hope is forever. I am finally putting my health first, because the people and the culture at the gym make me want to be a part of it.  I have made new friends, many of whom are close to my age and are working toward the same goals I am, which is really nice. Not a day goes by that I don’t feel the benefits of finding ECHF. Something as little as squatting down to pick up a pencil on my classroom floor, or carrying my heavy book bags from my car up to the second level of my school each morning – these are things that remind me daily how much better I feel since working out at the gym. Functional fitness is so important!  The impact Jamie has had on my life regarding nutrition is immense. She has taught me so much about reading ingredients and knowing what my body can handle and what needs to be eliminated. In the year I’ve been with her, I’ve completed three organized nutrition programs, and with each one, I gain a stronger sense of how to work things out to eat the way my body needs me to. Im a happier person, and that impacts everyone around me.  ECHF has had a very positive impact on my life; Im so grateful.

What’s your favorite ECHF memory so far?

Two things – I loved when Mary supported me by running alongside me for my first outdoor two-mile run.  That was so nice of her, and I made it without walking at all. I also loved the Zaching Against Cancer Workout.  It was emotional, hard and rewarding. I love wearing my Zaching t-shirt, because I feel so proud – and it also reminds me to continually put “difficult” into perspective.
