Jacob is a consistent member of the 5:30am crew. He prefers any WOD that involves running, however, he’s still willing to put in the work – squat form, lifting mechanics, you name it. Jacob is a role model to his two young sons; showing how to be healthy and active. ~Coach Nichole
What is your sports/fitness background?
I did Cross Country, Basketball and Track (hurdles and jumps) in High School. I’ve run 2 marathons and about a dozen half marathons and duathlons (run-bike-run). I was first exposed to Crossfit at the Arnold Sports Festival, and was in total awe of the competitors. I assumed it was what an NFL Combine must look like.
What are your fitness goals?
To keep up with my kids as they get older. To gain muscle mass and get functionally stronger. Also, to rock a six-pack at the beach.
What do you see as your greatest improvement?
When I started CrossFit, I was the definition of “skinny fat”. I’ve lost 22lbs of fat, so now I’m just skinny. I’m still pretty terrible at CrossFit, but lots of little things have improved. Rope climb, pull-ups, and snatches have improved the most.
What is your favorite and least favorite workout?
My favorite is actually Murph. I love what it represents, I love the camaraderie and energy in the box, and I like to run. Sure, I scale the hell out of it, but I get the same feeling that day as when I used to run half marathons. My least favorite is any workout with overhead squats, or burpees.
How has your experience at EC Health and Fitness affected your life?
It was hard moving to Maryland after spending my entire life in Ohio. Being a part of ECHF has given me a community and family here I can rely on. Physically, it has been rewarding to achieve new goals, and humbling to be around so many other great athletes.
What’s your favorite ECHF memory so far?
My first CrossFit Open workouts in 2018. Also attending Festivus and hanging out with all our competitors, and seeing past gym members.
